The Reverend Sandra D. Yates was called to ministry in 2002 while worshiping at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Dover, Delaware under the pastorate of Rev. Troy I. Thomas and Rev. Dr. Maxine L. Thomas. She humbly accepts God’s call to testify to the Good News and to heal the sick and depressed.  She is particularly concerned about women and underprivileged children.  Her favorite scripture is Psalm 23, “The Lord is my Shepherd”.  She has been favored to preach in Mt. Zion A.M.E Church, Dover, Antioch A.M.E Church in Frankford, Delaware, Morris Brown A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Words of Faith A.M.E. Church as well as many other houses of worship including Tokyo, Japan.

After accepting a fundraising mission at the ITC in the Atlanta University Center, Sandy Yates and her family moved to Georgia in 2006. Sandy has been a professional fundraiser for more than twenty years, having trained at The Nature Conservancy and working at several colleges and universities including Lincoln University (PA), Swarthmore College (PA), her alma mater Wesley College (DE), Albany State University, (GA), Talladega College (AL), Spelman College (GA) and Morehouse College (GA). 

Rev. Sandy was born in Philadelphia to Mae Vern Yates and the late Samuel Bowman, a Steward at Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia. She is the third of seven children. She attended Philadelphia public schools and enrolled in Temple University before she enlisted in the United States Air Force.  In 1986 Sandy was joined in marriage with James A. Platt.  They have six sons, three daughters-in-law and two grandchildren. Sandy holds a baccalaureate degree in Economics from Wesley College while continuing her studies towards an MBA and a Master of Divinity degree.

She is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and is proud to serve the Lord in unity with her husband in every way possible. Rev. Sandy arrived at Allen Temple AME Church in April 2018 where she leads the Prayer Ministry and Women's Bible Study.
