The Reverend James A. Platt was born in New Orleans, LA to Deacon James Platt and Clara B. F. Smith. He was reared in Trenton, NJ graduating from Trenton Central High School "Home of the Tornadoes"..

After high school he entered the United States Air Force (USAF) where he proudly served for 20 years at various locations in the U.S. and overseas. While serving at Little Rock AFB, Arkansas, Rev. Platt met and married Sandra D. Yates (Rev. Sandy) who has been his help-mate and ministry partner for more than 32 years. They are the proud parents of six sons, Mosi, Manu, Matthew, Ekundayo, Kwasi and Awadi. They are grateful to have three daughters-in-love: Aziza (Mosi), Teri (Matthew) and Lisa (Kwasi). They also are overly excited to be grandparents to two granddaughters and a grandson.

Upon receiving an honorable discharge and retiring from the USAF, Rev. Platt began employment with the State of Delaware serving in various state agencies while completing a B.S. degree in Human Resource Management at Wilmington University (DE) and later a Master of Divinity degree from “The House of Turner” —Turner Theological Seminary at The Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, GA.

Rev. Platt was called to the ministry while serving at Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church (Dover, DE) under the pastoral leadership of The Reverend Troy I. Thomas and The Reverend Dr. Maxine L. Thomas He was admitted into the Delaware Annual Conference in the First Episcopal District by Bishop Zedekiah Lazett Grady. He was ordained an Itinerant Deacon (2007) and Itinerant Elder (2010) in the AME Church at the hand of Bishop William Philip DeVeaux in the Sixth Episcopal District at the Atlanta-North Georgia Annual Conference.  

Rev. Platt has served the following congregations as Servant Leader: Nelson Chapel AME (Bainbridge, GA), Gaines Chapel AME (Anniston, AL), St. Luke AME (Birmingham, AL), Grady-Madison AME (Madison, AL) and presently serves at Allen Temple AME Church in Phenix City, AL of the 9th Episcopal District.

Rev. Platt believes that the foundation of his ministry is to teach on the Word of God, develop and implement strategies to promote the 21st century church while recalling the historic roots of African Methodism by means of teaching, preaching, praising the Lord and winning souls for Christ.

He and his wife reside in Cobb County GA with “#6” son.  One of his favorite scriptures is Psalm 27.4: I’m asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long. I’ll contemplate his beauty; I’ll study at his feet.” (MSG)

Rev. Sandra D. Yates

The Reverend Sandra D. Yates was called to ministry in 2002 while worshiping at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Dover, Delaware under the pastorate of Rev. Troy I. Thomas and Rev. Dr. Maxine L. Thomas. She humbly accepts God’s call to testify to the Good News and to heal the sick and depressed.  She is particularly concerned about women and underprivileged children.  Her favorite scripture is Psalm 23, “The Lord is my Shepherd”.  She has been favored to preach in Mt. Zion A.M.E Church, Dover, Antioch A.M.E Church in Frankford, Delaware, Morris Brown A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Words of Faith A.M.E. Church as well as many other houses of worship including Tokyo, Japan.

After accepting a fundraising mission at the ITC in the Atlanta University Center, Sandy Yates and her family moved to Georgia in 2006. Sandy has been a professional fundraiser for more than twenty years, having trained at The Nature Conservancy and working at several colleges and universities including Lincoln University (PA), Swarthmore College (PA), her alma mater Wesley College (DE), Albany State University, (GA), Talladega College (AL), Spelman College (GA) and Morehouse College (GA). 

Rev. Sandy was born in Philadelphia to Mae Vern Yates and the late Samuel Bowman, a Steward at Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia. She is the third of seven children. She attended Philadelphia public schools and enrolled in Temple University before she enlisted in the United States Air Force.  In 1986 Sandy was joined in marriage with James A. Platt.  They have six sons, three daughters-in-law and two grandchildren. Sandy holds a baccalaureate degree in Economics from Wesley College while continuing her studies towards an MBA and a Master of Divinity degree.

She is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and is proud to serve the Lord in unity with her husband in every way possible. Rev. Sandy arrived at Allen Temple AME Church in April 2018 where she leads the Prayer Ministry and Women's Bible Study.
